At First Lutheran Church of the Reformation, children may receive Holy Communion any time following baptism, provided that this is the will of the parents and the pastor has agreed to the practice. It is the custom of the church, however, that youngsters take first communion instruction at about grade two. Normally there are several youngsters receiving instruction at once. The standard curriculum for instruction is Daniel Erlander’s A Place for You: My Holy Communion Book. Parents are expected to aid in instruction and help the youngster complete the assignments in the book. They must make at least two appointments for the child’s instruction with the pastor.

Adults who have not previously received communion are welcomed to the railing following baptism.
