Our Faith

We are evangelical: that is, we believe that Jesus of Nazareth, born in Bethlehem 2000 years ago, was the Son of God, and by his life, death, and resurrection we are saved from sin and death.

MuralThrough his Spirit he comes to us and lives with us, empowering our work of love and justice in the world as we anticipate his promised return to bring a new heaven and a new earth. Holy Scripture is for us the inspired Word of God, bearing the story of our salvation.

We are catholic: that is, with the world-wide Christian church, we believe in the triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We follow the structure of the historic order of the Western mass, even as we celebrate that ancient order with flexibility and a sense for contemporary as well as traditional musical expressions.

We are led regionally by Bishop Margaret Payne, head of the New England Synod and nationally by Bishop Mark Hanson of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We support humanitarian relief and missions work throughout the world through the Lutheran World Federation and Lutheran World Relief
